About the CLAP Project
The CLAP Project: Empowering Children in Local Governance
Our Aims
The Children’s Local Affairs Participation (CLAP) collaborative initiative aims to make a difference in child participation in local governance within Central and Eastern Europe.
CLAP is a consortium dedicated to empowering children by integrating their participation into local governance. Our project brings together a unique blend of transdisciplinary expertise from ELTE University (Hungary) and Maria Curie-Sklodowska University (Poland), practical experience in children’s rights from Hungarian and Polish civil society organizations (Hintalovon and Happy Kids Foundation), and the proactive engagement of municipal authorities in Budapest and Lublin.

The goal of CLAP is to make child participation a standard part of local government decision-making. We plan to achieve this by:

providing the participating Municipalities with child participation techniques in a form of innovative Child Participation Toolkit, tailored to the different needs of local communities and inclusion of children with any kind of special needs and vulnerabilities

involving children directly in the development of these techniques to ensure their voices are heard

piloting the Child Participation Toolkit in real-world scenarios to evaluate its practicality and flexibility, which guarantees its long-term effectiveness

developing policy proposals for the participating Municipalities on how to integrate the Toolkit into their decision-making processes in a systemic way

disseminate the application of child participation techniques as a best practice for other municipalities and stakeholders
